HEALTHY START TO THE NEW YEAR

KICK START THE NEW YEAR BY FOLLOWING A FEW SIMPLE HEALTHY TIPS THAT CAN HELP YOU ON YOUR WAY TO A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE

vegWe’re all guilty of having indulged in some tasty and irresistible mouth-watering treats following the festivities of last year, so now it’s time to get motivated!

To start the New Year on a healthier note, why not begin by ensuring you get your essential intake of five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Your five-a-day can help keep you healthy, as they are full of vitamins and minerals and offer a valuable source of fibre and antioxidants. It’s as simple as swapping your sugary cake and biscuit treats for a healthier alternative.

Maybe this was already something you had in mind as one of your New Year’s resolutions and if not, why not make it one!

The best way to keep hydrated and well-nourished is to ensure you drink at least eight glasses of water a day. Water is the healthiest choice for quenching your thirst at any time, as it contains no calories or sugars that can damage your teeth and can be a good way to help keep you hydrated.

Exercising in small doses can also help to keep you fit and healthy, as well as boosting your mood and giving you more energy throughout the day. Even a small amount of regular activity that fits into your routine and lifestyle can lower the risk of developing major chronic diseases.

If you lead a hectic lifestyle why not go for a walk during your lunch break for some fresh air or opt to walk home after work. This will not only help you to feel refreshed, but will also clear your mind and help to de-stress, especially if you’ve been sitting at a desk at work for most of the day.

An alternative option for a healthier body and mind is to join a sports club or participate in something you enjoy outside of work and home life; this will give you some time for yourself and will help to keep you active and motivated.

Healthy adults sleep for an average of seven to nine hours a night. If you’re not getting enough sleep, it can affect your performance during the day, so schedule in those essential hours of sleep. Here’s to the New Year and to the New You!
